I am tired of federal trials that do nothing but spend the taxpayer’s money to fight questionable white collar crime. The government is always trying to prove a point and to me, it makes no sense. Two recent ones come to mind and it is costing us millions. Governor Rod Blogovoich is in prison because he tried to sell President Obama’s Senate seat. They had him in the first trial for lying to a federal officer but that wasn’t enough, one juror held out and he had to be retried costing additional millions. OK, he is in prison. I am not sure that he committed a crime. It was about his intent. The latest, of course, is John Edwards. Andrew Young, the once trusted aid, is certainly an opportunist and, according to campaign finance attorneys he can help put Edwards away for 30 years for misusing a gift from two very rich people to hide his affair and child while running for president. Young is an admitted liar and has been granted immunity from prosecution for his testimony. Some of the reported gift money was used to help build a house for Young’s family. How about funds that added an extra bedroom, a $100,000 pool, and other amenities. Here is my question to you. Do you know about campaign finance laws? A lawyer who is an expert in these matters said about recent trial testimony, “I’m not sure the prosecution accomplished very much…in terms of showing that Edwards has knowledge of the intricacies of the law and he intended to break it…this case is not about sex. It’s not about lying. It’s about what (Edwards) knew and what were his intentions.” Look, Edwards has a horrible 3% approval rating. He is finished. He can’t leave his house without people talking about him. Edwards is a cad for what he did to his wife but wasting our hard earned tax dollars to try to prove a very questionable case of intent is downright stupid. What do you think? Costly Federal Trials
