KBSI Perspective
Let me run a few of the famous before your eyes and you tell me what these celebrities all have in common.  Thomas Edison, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Cher, Magic Johnson, Bruce Jenner, George Washington, Steven Spielberg, and last but certainly not least Rhonda Mirgaux.  Rhonda may not be as famous as the rest.  She is the business manager of Fox 23 and My 49.  She has something in common with all these famous people, all are dyslexic to some degree.  Rhonda works with numbers and her office is full of sticky notes.  She says the notes keep her focused to make sure the numbers are correct.  She is an amazing talent.  Dyslexia doesn’t mean they see things differently.  The brain of a dyslexic is simply wired differently.  This difference makes printed materials more difficult to read fluently.  The individual isn’t lacking in intelligence or lazy.  The key to success is early identification and treatment.  A dyslectic can be helped at any time in his or her life.  The earlier, however, the better.  The longer help is delayed the harder it is for the child to catch up.  If help is provide in the 4th grade instead of kindergarten, it takes four times longer to improve the same skills.  Rhonda Mirguax of Fox 23 is the real expert in this Perspective.  She believes our schools can do much better and she is on a mission to get it done.  Most of us know someone who is dyslectic.  Federal and state education funding is the key.  Rhonda is right.  What do you think?Dyslexia Recognition In Schools
