The best advertising medium in the world ever is television. No other medium offers a combination of sight, sound, color, motion and emotion. No other medium is as intrusive when it comes to making a statement. All advertising works but when it comes to power and efficiency of your message, whatever it might be, television certainly is number one. After decades in the business I get upset when I read or hear other media saying television is a dinosaur. Nobody watches ads anymore. Hey, I have a DVR, TiVo, or Dish’s new gimmick, The Hopper. Just last week a media writer from USA Today stated, “Television ads, which nobody watches, zapped by whatever means, can’t be eternal.” My response would be to tell that to the politicians in this country who are spending millions of dollars on local television stations. Listen, these ads work. The writer somehow forgets that there are approximately 118 million households in America and nearly 115 million of them have television sets. In fact, there are more television sets in households than bathtubs. Viewers would rather watch than bathe. The television set is on over eight hours per day. Look, I agree that habits have changed over the years. The remote came in and you can easily switch channels but don’t think you can run away. The commercials are what bring you the free programs you like to watch in high definition and sometimes on a 60 inch screen. Some will succeed to not watch spots to a degree. However, advertisers roadblock the spots by having them run at the same time on different channels. People like television ads. It has been said that more people watch the Super Bowl to see the commercials than have interest in the game. Spots are informative. There is no better way for advertisers to reach consumers more efficiently and with more excitement than with the power of television advertising. I know this is a commercial for television advertising. But I am right!Television Advertising
