More than 15 years ago, I moved to Cape Girardeau and worked for Fox 23’s 9:00 p.m. news partner KFVS12.  The general manager at the time required department heads to watch the news in his office almost on a daily basis.  On my first day on the job in 1998, the GM wanted me to hone in on the weather segment with Bob Reeves.  He said, watch Bob closely, the guy never makes a mistake.  Years ago, I did the weather and your script is the weather map.  No teleprompter, no written words, just you the camera and fast moving graphics that you have to explain to the viewers.  Also, it is very apparent to the viewer if the weather person knows what he or she is talking about.  In my perspective, after my 15 years watching Bob Reeves he just might be the best meteorologist in the county.  I have been around meteorologists in Chicago, Ohio, North Carolina.  Yes, there are many who can do the job but Bob brings with him unusual characteristics.  In dangerous times, he is the voice of calm and reason.  Bad weather normally moves from west to east and when it hits Bob is first on the scene with an amazing grasp on every weather related situation.  Weather guys take a lot of heat when they break into programming.  The storm may be in a distant county but the television signal covers it and weather reporting is very important to those viewers to keep them safe.  Bob Reeves, 42 years with Heartland News.  What a talent and more than that just the nicest person you will ever meet.  Congratulations Bob, all of us at Fox 23 salute you and wish you the best in your next chapter.Bob Reeves Tribute
