Dangerous Weekend Heat Continues
Extreme Heat:
Dangerous heat continues for our area over the coming days, with the National Weather Service issuing multiple heat-related advisories and watches. Additionally, a HEAT ADVISORY is in place until noon on Monday, July 28. Heat index values in any of the orange counties will be between 105 and 110 degrees.
Cape Girardeau will spend most of Sunday afternoon and evening with heat index values above 100 degrees.
Forecast:
Forecast low temperatures tonight will be above average and joined with plenty of humidity. Mostly clear skies are expected Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Forecast high temperatures on Sunday will be around 5 degrees above average for this time of year in the lower to middle 90s. Mostly sunny skies continue with the chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours.
Stormcast shows the greatest chance of precipitation in our area close to dinner time Sunday evening. Any storms that do form will stay short-lived and carry minimal severe weather potential.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms will not provide too much relief from the heat or humidity, with heat index values across the area Sunday well above 100 degrees.
Higher dew points will continue for the foreseeable future. Today continues a record-setting trend with Saturday being the 21st consecutive day that Cape Girardeau has seen a dew point above 75 degrees. The old record was 18 days set July 14-31, 2010.
High temperatures and oppressive humidity continue into next week, with high temperatures in the middle and upper 90s. Daily isolated storm chances remain possible over the coming days, especially during the afternoon hours. Fortunately, the end does appear to be in sight, with a cold front on the way to bring relief from the heat mid-next week.
