Extreme Heat:
An EXTREME HEAT WARNING is in effect until 8 p.m. CDT Thursday evening for far southern portions of our viewing area. Heat index values could reach 110 degrees.
Forecast:
A line of showers and thunderstorms is moving into our area this afternoon and into the evening. Strong wind gusts near 60 miles per hour and quarter-sized hail will be possible with these storms.

Stormcast shows storms lingering in our area through Wednesday evening.
Low temperatures tonight will fall to the lower and middle 70s. Partly cloudy skies and a chance for showers and thunderstorms with a light and variable wind.
Forecast high temperatures on Thursday look much closer to average with partly sunny skies. Storm chances return Thursday evening with a northerly wind.
Fortunately, the heat index is beginning to look manageable in our northern counties. Relief will come as a cold front moves southeast over much of the heartland Thursday.
High temperatures in Cape Girardeau will be in the upper 80s with partly sunny skies and spotty chances of showers and thunderstorms.
We get a break from the humidity during the upcoming weekend, with dew points finally falling below 75 degrees on Friday.
We start August in the lower 80s with mostly sunny skies. Storm chances return on Monday with high temperatures in the middle and upper 80s.
