Strong to Severe Storms, Friday Evening into Saturday

A line of strong to severe showers and thunderstorms will be possible this evening for the western half of the viewing area. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) of severe weather for the western edge of our viewing area. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) is in place for areas east of Farmington, Missouri, through portions of southern Illinois and far western Kentucky.

There is a small chance of an isolated tornado or two with Friday evening’s storms, though, should one form, it could reach EF2 strength or stronger. Large hail and damaging winds remain possible as well.

Looking ahead to Saturday, the Heartland will see another chance at highs in the lower 70s. This is over 15 degrees above average for early March!

For Saturday, the best chances of showers and thunderstorms for Cape will be in the morning and early afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms are possible before we see mostly cloudy skies by dinnertime.

Going forward, mild temperatures look to stick around into next week with highs in the 60s and 70s. We dry out on Sunday and for most of Monday before our next storm system moves through early next week.
