Cooler, Showers and Thunderstorms Likely for Friday

After Thursday’s record heat, temperatures will cool significantly on Friday with a passing cold front. The front will also bring with it the chance for showers and thunderstorms on Friday morning and into the afternoon.

The primary severe weather risk remains north of the viewing area, but a stray strong-to-severe storm could still enter our area. Large hail would be the main concern in any of these storms.

Low temperatures Thursday night into Friday will be closer to average in the 40s and 50s. Winds will be strong through the overnight hours.

Cloud cover will build through the overnight hours in Cape Girardeau, with wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour. Temperatures will be noticeably cooler, in the upper 40s.

Afternoon temperatures across the Heartland will struggle following a very warm day on Thursday. Winds will shift out of the north, gusting to 30 miles per hour.

Friday’s forecast for Cape will be a far cry from Thursday afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms are possible throughout the day with a strong northerly wind.

The weekend gets off to a relatively cooler start before warming up heading into the start of the work week. Chances for precipitation are building beginning late Tuesday night and through the first couple of days in April.
