The month of May will get off to a cool and cloudy start across the Heartland. A weak front is expected to move through the overnight hours, bringing highs down a couple of degrees on Friday.

The latest runs of StormCast pick up a few light showers trying to form along this front as it moves through the viewing area. While a rain shower or two is possible, most of us will likely stay dry.

Minor flooding is possible along the Mississippi River down through Scott County. Avoid wading in flood waters and do not attempt to drive through a flooded roadway.

Temperatures will be close to average on Thursday night and into Friday morning, with lows in the upper 40s and lower 50s.

Mostly cloudy skies are expected for Thursday evening into Friday morning in Cape Girardeau. A light shower or two is possible, but most of us will likely stay dry.

Variable cloud cover is expected over Cape on Friday, with seasonally cooler temperatures for the afternoon. Our afternoon high will be in the lower 60s with a light northerly wind.

Cooler weather continues into the weekend before temperatures warm up in time for the start of next week. Sunny for this weekend as well, though chances for showers and possibly a few thunderstorms increase for the first half of the work week. Highs will range from the lower 60s on Friday to the lower 80s by Monday.
