Scattered Showers and Thunderstorms Likely Tuesday

Another day of showers and thunderstorms awaits the Heartland on Tuesday. Keep the umbrella and raincoat ready for the majority of the day.

Flooding remains a concern, especially for the eastern half of the viewing area after today’s storms. A Flood Watch is in place until 7 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9.

Here is a look at storm timing for Tuesday, according to the latest run of StormCast.

An isolated severe storm or two cannot be ruled out for the northeastern corner of the viewing area. A Marginal Risk of severe weather is in place with the strongest storms capable of 60 mph wind gusts.

Temperatures early on Tuesday morning will be mild across the viewing area, falling to the lower 70s.

Storm chances remain possible through the overnight hours in Cape Girardeau, ramping up around sunrise.

Highs will still be warm despite our chances for storms, with forecasts calling for the lower 90s on Monday afternoon.

Higher levels of humidity will also drive heat indices into the single digits for the western two-thirds of the viewing area. A Heat Advisory will be in effect on Tuesday afternoon.

Highs will try for the lower 90s in Cape with a steady chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.

Warmer weather will stick around for the majority of this week, only returning to the lower and middle 80s by the start of next week. Several chances for showers and thunderstorms will continue to be monitored over the coming days.
