Heat and Humidity Climbing for the Heartland
Temperatures remain on the rise for the start of the work week. While we are looking at plenty of sunshine, the heat and humidity will make any outdoor plans difficult to enjoy.
The latest runs of StormCast show a few passing clouds, with afternoon surging through Monday afternoon and into the early evening.
An Extreme Heat Warning will be in place until 8 p.m. CDT on Thursday, July 2. Heat index values will be well into the triple digits, even close to 110°, during the hours of peak heating.
A mild start to Monday morning with overnight lows falling to the middle to upper 70s.
It should be a quiet close to the weekend with a smooth Monday morning commute in Cape Girardeau. Lows tonight will fall to the mid-70s with a light south-southwesterly wind.
Highs soar to the middle 90s on Monday afternoon for the viewing area, with not much relief from the winds either.
With high levels of humidity, dangerous heat index values will arrive by Monday afternoon. Expect heat indices across the region to range from 100° to 110°.
Drink plenty of water and give yourself a break from the heat if you have any outdoor plans in Cape on Monday.
Temperatures will be consistent, though dangerous heat and humidity look to stick with us through the week ahead. Small chances for precipitation linger for the holiday weekend, but offer little reprieve from summer-like conditions.
