Sunny, Seasonal for Thursday Ahead of Weekend Storm Chances

Conditions on Thursday will be on par with late July in the Heartland. Mostly sunny skies are expected with manageable temperatures and heat indices throughout the afternoon.

StormCast shows a quiet end to our Wednesday as well as plenty of sunshine on Thursday.

Temperatures this evening and into early Thursday will fall to the middle and upper 60s. Winds are expected to stay on the lighter side through the overnight.

Mostly clear skies heading into Thursday morning are expected for the Cape Girardeau area. Temperatures will be close to our average low for late August, in the upper 60s.

Summertime conditions continue into Thursday afternoon with temperatures reaching the middle to upper 80s. Winds will remain on the lighter side, out of the east northeast.

Thursday afternoon will be warm, though not unbearable for Cape, with temperatures in the upper 80s. Dew points are expected to behave themselves, limiting any impacts from the heat index for any outdoor plans.

Our next best chance for showers and thunderstorms arrives on Friday evening. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) of severe weather is in place for a few of our western counties, where an isolated severe storm or two will be possible. Not everyone will see storms, though the strongest will be capable of large hail, damaging winds, and possibly a brief tornado.

StormCast has this round of storms reaching Cape Girardeau late on Friday evening into early Saturday morning.

Temperatures will drop a few degrees with chances for showers and thunderstorms heading into the start of August. While showers and thunderstorms are possible each day, not everyone will see storms that form during the peak hours of afternoon heating. These chances continue into early next week before warmer weather arrives for midweek.
