Severe Weather Potential:

Strong to severe storms remain possible along the western edge of the viewing area on Friday evening. A Tornado Watch is in place for central and portions of southeast Missouri until 11 p.m. CDT on Friday, July 31.

Isolated to scattered severe storms are possible for the viewing area through Friday evening and into early Saturday. A Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) of severe weather is in place for the majority of southeast Missouri. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) extends into portions of southern Illinois, western Kentucky and northwest Tennessee.

Isolated tornadoes, damaging winds and heavy rains will be the main concerns in the strongest storms as they track southeast through the overnight hours. While hail is possible, the more favorable environment remains to our west.

Above is a look at storm timing on Friday night and into early Saturday, according to the latest runs of StormCast. Scattered showers remain a possibility through the afternoon.

Forecast:

Temperatures will fall to the upper 60s and lower 70s for the start of the weekend. Winds remain light and out of the south across the viewing area.

Storms remain possible for the Cape Girardeau area, especially late Friday evening. We expect things to quiet down closer to sunrise, with temperatures in the lower 70s.

Highs will be well below average across the Heartland on Saturday afternoon. Expect temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s as winds shift out of the west.

Cloudy with the chance for a spot shower in Cape as we go throughout the afternoon. Be sure to keep an eye on the radar for those with outdoor plans on Saturday, as showers will likely be scattered and brief.

A cool start to the month of August continues through the weekend. High temperatures will stay in the upper 70s ahead of a return to the 80s throughout the work week. Chances for showers and thunderstorms will become more sporadic before clearing out by midweek.
