Weather Headlines:

High heat and humidity will continue to overstay their welcome in the Heartland through at least the end of the work week. The Heat Advisory for the entirety of the viewing area has been extended until 9 p.m. on Friday, September 18.

Feels-like temperatures remain on the wrong side of 100 degrees for the majority of the viewing area on Wednesday afternoon.

Continue to familiarize yourself with the signs and differences between heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Staying hydrated, taking breaks from extended time outdoors, and monitoring for these signs will be important through the rest of the work week.

Forecast:

Temperatures overnight will also flirt with some of the warmest we have on record. Temperatures will be between 10 and 15 degrees above average for Wednesday morning.

Our record-warm temperature for Wednesday morning sits at 72° set in 1991. The forecast calls for temperatures that would rewrite that record, with mostly clear skies through the overnight.

The latest run of StormCast keeps the viewing area fairly quiet, outside of a brief spot shower Wednesday afternoon. Anything that pops up would likely be short-lived and do next to nothing in terms of relief from the heat.

Near-record highs continue for most of the viewing area on Wednesday afternoon. Air temperatures are forecast to reach the upper 90s.

Very little relief arrives for Cape Girardeau on Wednesday afternoon in terms of cloud cover. Highs will reach the upper 90s, with our record high for the day sitting at 99° set in 2019.

Thursday’s forecast does not look any better. Highs continue to threaten the record books through the back half of the work week.

Forecast temperatures continue to trend higher through the weekend, with rain chances now holding off until next week. A passing cold front looks to wait until early next week, just in time for the start of astronomical fall.
