Weather Headlines:

The Heat Advisory has once again been extended as feels-like temperatures continue to reach around 105 degrees each afternoon. Heat alerts are now in place until 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 20.

Not only will these values be high on Thursday afternoon, but they will also be widespread across the viewing area.

It is unfortunately beginning to sound like a broken record, but knowing the signs of heat illness will be important through the weekend. Additionally, be sure to stay hydrated and take breaks inside if you are expecting to spend extended periods of time outdoors.

Forecast:

Lows continue to be well above average for most of the viewing area on Thursday. We will start out with temperatures in the lower and middle 70s.

Clear skies continue through the overnight hours in Cape Girardeau. The warmest low temperature for the calendar day sits at 74 degrees, set on September 17, 1978.

The latest runs of StormCast continue to show the chance for an isolated shower or two during the afternoon. While a few may see a sprinkle or two, most of us will remain dry.

Not many nice things to say about the upcoming forecast for Thursday afternoon. Record-breaking heat continues through most of the Heartland.

We should see lots of sunshine in Cape throughout the day Thursday, though it will only allow us to stay far above average for our high temperature. The record high on Thursday afternoon is 96 degrees, set in 2019.

Forecasts call for record heat to persist into the end of the work week, as highs look to stay in the upper 90s.

Highs continue in the middle and upper 90s through the weekend before slowly cooling down next week. Our next best chance for showers and thunderstorms comes late Monday into early Tuesday. A cold front looks to finally bring us relatively cooler weather by the middle of next week.
