Showers, Storms Friday, Cooler Weather Follows
Our latest stretch of above-average temperatures comes to an end on Friday with a passing cold front moving through the Heartland. Chances for showers and thunderstorms will accompany this front as it moves through the viewing area.
The latest run of StormCast shows chances for showers and thunderstorms increasing late tonight and into early Friday morning. While a few rumbles of thunder will be possible, a lack of instability (storm fuel) should limit severe weather and flooding potential.
Model projections for rainfall keep most of the area under an inch through early Saturday. Locally higher totals in excess of an inch cannot be ruled out for those directly under any of the stronger showers moving through.
Even with rain in the forecast, it will still be a warm start to the day for early October. Overnight lows will only drop to the 60s and 70s with a light southerly wind.
Overcast skies return tonight into Friday morning for Cape Girardeau. Chances for showers and thunderstorms increase through the overnight as well.
Temperatures will not budge much throughout the day on Friday, with highs ranging from the upper 60s to the lower 70s.
Overcast skies, showers, and a northerly wind will all work to keep our temperatures in the lower 70s for Cape. While it will be a bit gloomy, the incoming system will put an end to the most recent stretch of 90-degree days.
Cooler weather continues to pour into the Heartland for the weekend. Highs on Saturday are forecast to be below average, in the lower to middle 70s.
After our chances of precipitation clear out early Saturday morning, sunny and seasonal weather takes over the forecast. Highs will remain in the lower to middle 70s through the majority of next week.
