Queen tribute band to perform at Show Me Center on July 24
Frontman says its the "most fun you can have with your clothes on!"
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Get ready to rock! A Queen tribute band will perform Saturday at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau on Saturday, July 24.
Gary Mullen has performed as Freddie Mercury in One Night of Queen concerts for nearly two decades. In 2000, he won “Stars In Their Eyes” Live Grand Final, as Freddie Mercury, with the most votes ever cast in the shows history. Since 2002 Mullen and The Works have played to sellout crowds in multiple countries.
Mullen describes the group’s concerts as high energy, actively encouraging audience participation.
“We’re going to give you the most fun you can have with your clothes on!” he said. “I get a kick out of it. There’s no greater feeling than seeing an audience smile.”
Mullen says the band can feel the intensity from the audience before they head to the stage.
“You feed off the audience’s energy,” he said. “It’s like the Energizer bunny and putting a battery in your back.”
“Somebody to love” is one of his favorite songs to perform.
“It’s great to be back on American soil because we got three weeks done and had to go home,” Mullen said of the band’s 2020 American tour that was cut short because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
When they were able to come back together and start rehearsing again, “it was like putting on a good, comfortable pair of sneakers.”
Later this year, One Night of Queen will do a European tour in France, Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom.
