Nebraska cheerleader competes solo at state after teammates quit

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Morrill High School senior rose to the occasion for the Nebraska state cheer competition earlier this month in Grand Island.

After three of the four cheerleaders quit the team, Katrina Kohel didn’t give up and competed solo.

“It’s my senior year, and I put a lot of time and sweat and tears into cheer, and I didn’t want it to end because the other three decided to quit,” Kohel said.

The thought of quitting never crossed Kohel’s mind, even after being asked several times by her coach.

Kohel plans to enlist with the Air Force after graduation and to attend the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
