CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Southeast Missouri Athletics released the 12-game football schedule this upcoming 2024 season.

Southeast Missouri will meet North Alabama in the FCS Kickoff during week zero.

The football team makes it first appearance in the 10th Annual FCS Kickoff at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama on Aug. 24. That will be a televised game with ESPN platform designation to be announced later. This is the first time SEMO faces United Athletic Conference member North Alabama.

Then, the Redhawks travel more than 1,200 miles west to play Football Bowl Subdivision and Conference USA school New Mexico State on Aug. 31). NMSU finished second in the Conference USA with an overall record of 10-5 and 7-1 in league play last season.

Other non-conference foes include Southern Illinois on Sept. 21 and Northwestern State on Sept. 28.

The War for the Wheel against SIU in Carbondale will be the 92nd matchup between the teams.

Northwestern State visits Cape Girardeau during Family Weekend.

The Big South-OVC Football Association slate features nine league teams each playing an eight-game conference schedule in 2024.

SEMO opens conference play at home against reigning Big South-OVC Co-Champion UT Martin on Sept. 7.

They play Tennessee Tech on Oct. 12 and reigning Big South-OVC Co-Champion and 2023 FCS Playoff participant Gardner-Webb on Oct. 26. That will also be SEMO’s homecoming.

The Redhawks play first-year Association member Western Illinois on Nov. 16 for the last home game.

The remainder of the Redhawks Big South-OVC Association schedule includes trips to Eastern Illinois on Oct. 5, Charleston Southern on Oct. 19, Lindenwood on Nov. 9 and Tennessee State on Nov. 23.

SEMO competes against both Gardner-Webb and Charleston Southern for the first time in 2024.

League play begins Sept. 7. Association games will primarily take place between Weeks five and 13, with one game apiece during Weeks two and four.

Seven weeks will feature four association matchups.
