Wainwright signs 1-year extension with St. Louis Cardinals

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KBSI) – Waino is coming back! The St. Louis Cardinals announced on Friday that pitcher Adam Wainwright will pitch for the Cardinals again in 2022. They agreed to a one-year extension with the veteran right-hander.

Wainwright is finishing his 16th season with the Cardinals.

The Cardinals is the only team the ace has pitched for since debuting in the Major Leagues in September 2005.

Waino is 17-7 with a 3.05 ERA and a MLB-leading three complete games across 206 1/3 innings, his highest single-season workload since ’14.

He is scheduled to pitch in Wednesday’s National League Wild Card Game against either the Los Angeles Dodgers or San Fransico Giants.

Catcher Yadier Molina just signed an extension for the 2022 season. Wainwright and Molina have started 304 regular-season games together (and 14 more in postseason play), the fourth-most of any battery combination in modern AL/NL history. Wainwright is MLB’s third-oldest active player, trailing only 41-year-olds Albert Pujols and Rich Hill.

Wainwright is Major League Baseball’s third-oldest active player, trailing only 41-year-olds Albert Pujols (former St. Louis Cardinals) and Rich Hill.
