A cold front arrives on Wednesday (6/6/23)
Highs on Tuesday ranged from the upper-80s to low-90s across the FOX 23 coverage area. Although skies were mostly sunny, you may have noticed a bit of haze. The haze was due to wildfire smoke originating from Quebec, Canada.
Fortunately, much of the smoke will shift south of our area on Wednesday, taking any air quality concerns along with it. That said, we will see less sunshine as a cold front arrives from the north. While we wake up to mostly sunny skies, we’ll turn partly to mostly cloudy during the afternoon.
Scattered storms are also possible as the cold front passes. These showers and storms will be moving from north to south.
The passage of a cold front will result in a decent temperature spread across the area. Highs in our southern communities may be successful in reaching the 90s. Meanwhile, we expect upper-70s in our northern communities. Cape Girardeau will be caught in between, likely seeing middle-80s for highs.
Given the scattered storm chance, some degree of humidity, and warm air on Wednesday, we’ll bump up the Skeeter Meter into the “high” category. Although temperatures will still be warm, the humidity will back off quite a bit on Thursday and Friday. For that reason, we’ll keep the Skeeter Meter in the “medium” category on those days.
We’ll see a lot of sunshine through Saturday. However, rain chances return on Sunday as another upper-level disturbance arrives. Per the latest data, storms look likely on Sunday.
