Break in the rain to start next week

Trace amounts of rain were seen in much of our area, especially the northern portions through southern Illinois and northern SEMO. Higher amounts from reports as of 7 a.m. Sunday came from Ripley and Butler Counties in Missouri, and western Kentucky.

Some reported over 2″ of rain through the area as some storms were slow movers late Saturday evening.

Clearing skies late on Sunday meant cooler temperatures. Highs were barely in the 80s for Cape Girardeau and southern Illinois, 70s as you looked farther south.

We’ll warm into the 80s for Monday once more with high pressure sliding back into play. Because of this, a lot of sunshine mixed with some fair-weather cumulus clouds will likely be Monday’s views.

Dma Tomorrow High

As for the dews, or dew point temperature, we’ll see a break going forward into Tuesday. We’ll hold steady in the 60s through the first part of the work week, but by Wednesday, things will deteriorate in terms of comfortability.

With dew point temperatures in the 70s and middle 70s, heat indices by that time could be pushing toward triple digits again. That’s when we also reintroduce storm chances.

For that reason, that’s why the Skeeter Meter will jump from the “Medium” category with light winds and seasonable temperatures Monday and Tuesday to “High” by Wednesday.

The pattern after Wednesday will look similar… storm chances will continue each day heading into next weekend.
