Breezy and rainy on Tuesday
Widespread rain is likely on Tuesday, with many areas expected to see a quarter to an inch of rain. Strong winds will pick up overnight Monday into the first half of Tuesday.
There is a Wind Advisory in place from 9:00pm Monday until 12:00pm Wednesday for parts of southern Illinois, western Kentucky and northwestern Tennessee. Southeast Missouri is in a Wind Advisory from 9:00pm Monday until 6:00am Wednesday. Southeasterly winds from 15-20 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph are expected.
The strong winds will continue overnight Monday into Tuesday. Gusty winds can blow around any unsecure objects, tree limbs and cause damage to powerlines.
Rain will be heavier in the morning, with on and off chances throughout the afternoon. The rain will begin to taper off in the evening, as temperatures drop the lingering rain will transition into a dusting of snow for some SEMO and southern Illinois counties.
The precipitation comes to an end Tuesday night, with many areas expected to accumulate over a quarter of an inch to a little over 1″.
The highest chance we will see rain is overnight Monday into Tuesday afternoon. The probability of precipitation starts to taper off in the early evening hours.
Temperatures across the FOX23 viewing area will range in the 40s and lower 50s. It will be warmer east of the Mississippi and slightly cooler west.
A wet week ahead, with a few chances for precipitation into the weekend. We dry up Wednesday and most of Thursday, before another round of widespread rain arrives Thursday evening and continues into Friday. Arctic air will send weekend temperatures below normal.
