Chance for storms, severe weather, starting Monday – 4/10/2022
(KBSI) – Temperatures continued to climb on Sunday, reaching the upper-70s for many and even low-80s for some. Hopefully you got to take some time to go outside and enjoy it, because storms reenter the picture starting Monday morning.
A cold front lurks to the west on Sunday evening, and a few storms will fire along it. For the majority of Sunday night, those storms will be west of the FOX 23 viewing area. It’ll be a mild night, with lows in the upper-50s on Monday morning.
By the morning commute on Monday, storms will be in the FOX 23 viewing area, bringing heavy rain along with them. I’m not too concerned about severe weather with this round of storms.
The cold front stalls over the area on Monday, meaning that showers and storms remain possible through Monday afternoon and evening. Rain will still stifle high temperatures to an extent. We’re forecasting middle-60s for highs in Cape Girardeau.
As the day wears on, the chance increases that storms may reach severe status. The best chance for severe weather will be along and south of Cape Girardeau. Damaging winds and hail are the main concerns, but I cannot rule out an isolated tornado. Flash flooding is also a concern.
Chances for rain continue through Wednesday. I’d argue that Wednesday brings forth a more substantial severe weather potential. Chief Meteorologist Rusty Dawkins will be watching that potential throughout the week. Stay tuned!
