Extreme heat and humidity will continue to have an impact on the Heartland for the start of the work week. An Extreme Heat Warning is in place for most of the viewing area, with feels-like temperatures up to 115 degrees through Tuesday evening.

Isolated to scattered severe storms will be possible this evening, mainly for the eastern edge of the viewing area. A Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) of severe weather is in place for Sunday evening and into the overnight hours. If storms can get going, they would be capable of large hail and damaging winds.

The latest run of StormCast shows chances for storms in our eastern counties tonight. Monday starts quiet before storm chances return later in the day.

Furthermore, isolated strong to severe storms will be possible for the eastern edge of the viewing area on Monday afternoon. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) of severe weather is in place, with damaging winds the main concern in the strongest storms.

Overnight lows stay mild heading into Monday morning. Most of us will start the work week in the middle to upper 70s.

A small chance of storms tonight in the Cape Girardeau area with gradually clearing skies. Winds stay on the lighter side out of the south and southwest.

Monday afternoon will be a scorcher. High temperatures are forecast in the upper 90s to lower triple digits.

We could see a few passing clouds in the morning, though mostly sunny skies will allow us to turn up the heat in Cape for Monday afternoon.

Feels-like temperatures on Monday afternoon will be mean, hence the heat alerts in place. Keep hydrated, as well as give yourself plenty of breaks from the heat if you plan on being outside for an extended period of time.

Tuesday will be on the hot side before a cold front knocks temperatures back closer to average by midweek. Highs fall back to the upper 80s in the Heartland; additionally, storm chances hold off until the end of the week.
