Friday Night Storms Possible, Heating Up Saturday
Severe Weather Potential:
The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) for most of our viewing area tonight. Storms will be capable of damaging winds on Friday night.
Stormcast shows the potential for scattered storms throughout the evening tonight.
Forecast:
Low temperatures across the heartland will be in the lower to mid-70s tonight. Mostly cloudy skies and chances for showers and thunderstorms with a light and variable breeze.
High temperatures will be a few degrees above average in the lower 90s on Saturday. Partly sunny skies for the start of the weekend with winds out of the south/southwest. A stray shower or thunderstorm will be possible tomorrow afternoon/evening.
For Cape, temperatures return to the 80s tomorrow morning and will reach the lower 90s in the afternoon. A hot and humid Saturday will be ahead with a southwesterly breeze.
Despite temperatures near average, the heat index will reach well above 105 degrees on Saturday. It will be important to take breaks from the heat when you can, drink plenty of fluids, and monitor for signs of heat illnesses.
Heat illness will be a possibility over the next couple of days, and it is important to know the symptoms of both heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Monitor yourself and those around you, particularly those in sensitive groups, and take the appropriate action to prevent heat illness.
High levels of humidity will continue to raise the heat index into the triple digits for much of the next week. Dew points in the mid-to-upper 70s coupled with above average temperatures will make for a hot and humid weak ahead.
Small chances for precipitation reach our area on Monday before highs in the mid-90s and lows in the mid-70s take over the extended forecast. It will be a very hot and humid week ahead as an upper-level ridge allows warm air and moisture to be transported up from the south.
