Forecast:

Low temperatures across the area will reach the lower to middle 70s tonight. Mostly cloudy skies and a wind out of the southeast will keep temperatures from a falling below that 70 degree mark.

For Cape Girardeau, temperatures will return to the 80s by 9 a.m. and reach the lower 90s by mid-to-late afternoon with a light and variable breeze. Following partly sunny skies, afternoon showers will then cool temperatures off back into the 80s.

High temperatures across the heartland are expected to be near average on Friday in the upper 80s and lower 90s. Isolated afternoon showers will be possible during the peak hours of daytime heating.

We could still see heat index values in the triple digits tomorrow before storms roll in. Continue to stay hydrated and take breaks from the heat as needed.

Daily storm chances will remain possible through the weekend before an upper-level ridge moves across the central portions of the country. This will bring warmer temperatures in the mid-90s and plenty of humidity for next week.
