Heat Alerts in Place for the Week Ahead
Prolonged heat highlights the forecast as we prepare for the start of September. A Heat Advisory is in place for most of the viewing area on Monday, August 31, and will continue until 10 a.m. CDT on Tuesday, September 1. Heat index values could reach up to 110 degrees during the peak hours of the afternoon.
As prolonged heat continues through the end of the work week, several of our counties will be put under an Extreme Heat Watch from Tuesday until 8 p.m. CDT on Friday, September 4. We will see little relief from the heat during the overnight hours, which will make staying hydrated and cool important over the next several days.
The latest run of StormCast shows mostly clear skies through the next several days in the Heartland. An occasional afternoon cloud will not do much for trying to cool things down.
We start out on Monday with temperatures warmer than average for the last day of August. Overnight lows will range from the upper 60s to the lower 70s.
Quiet conditions continue through the overnight hours in Cape Girardeau. It should be a smooth, but warm morning commute on Monday.
Highs will range from the middle to upper 90s by Monday afternoon. This is 10 to 15 degrees warmer than average for this time of year!
Plenty of sunshine is expected for the start of the work week. Unfortunately, it will come alongside hot temperatures and even warmer heat indices.
The majority of our viewing area will see feels-like temperatures above 100 degrees on Monday afternoon.
Temperatures remain far above average through the first week of September, with forecast highs staying in the middle and upper 90s. A few small chances for rain emerge in the forecast by the end of the week, which will bring highs back to the lower 90s.
