Heat and Humidity Continues
Forecast:
Multiple heat alerts remain in effect as a result of high temperatures and humidity continuing to sit over our area. A HEAT ADVISORY will then remain in place for our area until 7 p.m. CDT on Friday, July 25. Heat indices will continue to be above 100 degrees for most of us over the next couple of days.
It will be important to monitor for signs of heat illness over the next couple of days. Monitor yourself and those around you for the following symptoms if you are spending extended time outdoors.
Low temperatures tonight will continue to remain above average as a southerly breeze feeds warm air and moisture into the region. Mostly clear skies tonight with lows reaching the mid-to-upper 70s.
Forecast high temperatures will be a few degrees above average on Friday. Highs will reach the lower to mid-90s with mostly sunny skies and a south-southwesterly breeze.
For Cape Girardeau, we will spend very little time tomorrow below the 80-degree mark. Temperatures will be in the lower 90s for most of the afternoon to close out the work week with mostly sunny skies.
Still plenty of triple-digit heat index values on Friday, with heat indices up to 108 degrees still possible for some of our locations. Any outdoor activities should be accompanied by ample breaks from the heat, plenty of hydration, and a plan to monitor for heat illnesses.
Extremely isolated chances of showers and thunderstorms will be possible for the next couple of days during the afternoon hours. Any storms that do develop will be small-scale and short-lived.
The dew point will remain above 75 degrees for the foreseeable forecast, which will continue to bump heat indices up close to or above 100 degrees.
Daily afternoon storm chances will be possible through the weekend. Temperatures begin to heat up on Monday into the middle and upper 90s before a more noticeable break from the heat looks to arrive sometime late next week.
