Heavy rainfall expected Wednesday (2/7/23)

Very light rain off and on Tuesday evening will transition into heavier rainfall by the early morning hours on Thursday. This rain event will be ongoing throughout the day, with the risk of flooding possible.

As of Tuesday evening, a Flood Watch has been issued for most counties in SEMO. This Flood Watch is in effect from Wednesday morning through Wednesday night for 1-2″ possible throughout most of our coverage area.

In terms of severe weather, we are included within a Marginal Risk for damaging winds being of primary concern. The timing of some thunder and isolated stronger storms will be in the later afternoon and evening hours with daytime heating and enough moisture coming into play.

Again, rain chances really ramp up through Wednesday morning and continue through the early morning hours.

One version of Stormcast (below) shows most of the area, especially SEMO, will see closer to 2″ of rain, with locally heavier amounts following the track of heavier storms throughout Wednesday.

After our heavy rainfall event Wednesday, we will continue to be mild through Thursday before cooling down slightly into the weekend. A couple of other rain chances are possible by this Friday and by Valentine’s Day.
