High Heat and Humidity Continues into Labor Day Weekend

Dangerous heat and humidity will persist into the holiday weekend across the Heartland. An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect through 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, with peak indices reaching 110 degrees each afternoon.

The latest run of StormCast continues to show a small chance for a shower or two, though most will stay dry on Friday. Better, yet still low, chances for precipitation peak during the holiday weekend.

Low temperatures will remain well above average once again for the start of our day on Friday. Temperatures will be close to 10 degrees above average for early September on Friday morning.

Once again, another warm evening is on tap in Cape Girardeau under mostly clear skies. Temperatures to start the day will be in the middle 70s.

Friday afternoon temperatures will rival record highs across the area. Highs will range from the upper 90s to an occasional triple-digit for air temperatures.

We will quickly return to the lower 80s in Cape on Friday morning before spending most of the afternoon in the 90s. Wind will be light, though heat and humidity is expected to make extended time outdoors very difficult.

Here is a look at the feels-like temperatures throughout the day on Friday. Most of the afternoon will see heat indices above 100, owing to near-record highs and elevated humidity.

There is an isolated chance for a sprinkle or two on Saturday, though most of the viewing area will remain dry. Temperatures will be relatively cooler for Labor Day, though above-average temperatures will be a mainstay in our extended forecast.
