Light freezing rain before transition to rain Monday
There is a Winter Weather Advisory in place for many of us until 10 p.m. Monday night. Freezing rain is expected for counties in southeast Missouri and southern Illinois as temperatures start out below freezing. This period may allow ice to form on some surfaces even when temperatures rise just above freezing later in the day, if not later this evening.
Freezing rain will be possible on and off until we see temperatures above freezing, as a disturbance moves through our region.
Up to a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation is possible across the FOX 23 coverage area. Although the ice accumulation is expected to be minor, difficult travel conditions are possible, affecting the afternoon and evening commutes.
Then, we’ll be watching for temperatures to warm above freezing for a transition all to rain, especially by tonight. This is one of multiple rounds of rain to happen through Thursday.
With the significant warm up this week, widespread amounts of 1-3″ of rain are expected by the end of the work week, which may lead to a marginal flood risk from far southeast Missouri to western Kentucky.
