More intense heat for the weekend (7/22/22)

Over recent days, the more oppressive humidity has slowly crept back into the area. The heat also hasn’t let up in intensity. For the weekend, we expect both the heat and humidity to remain.

Skies will be mostly clear on Saturday morning, and it will likely remain that way throughout the rest of the day. High temperatures will be hot on Saturday. We’re forecasting a high of 99° in Cape Girardeau.

A Heat Advisory remains in effect for everyone in the FOX 23 coverage area through Sunday as the humidity will allow for dangerously high heat indices.

We “copy” and “paste” the weather pattern from Saturday into Sunday. It’s another day with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper-90s to near 100°. However, we may have to deal with a few isolated storms on Sunday evening.

The isolated storms late Sunday will precede higher rain chances heading into next week. Scattered storms are possible on Monday. As a result, we bump up the Skeeter Meter into the “Ugh” category on Monday given the increased rain chances.

As rain chances increase next week, temperatures also decline. We expect some day-to-day variation in temperature as a front dances around the area. That said, computer model guidance is hinting at a stronger cold front passage late next week which could result in cooler air for next weekend.
