Near Record Heat to Start the Work Week
We get yet another chance to set a new record high in Cape Girardeau as unseasonably warm weather remains at the start of the work week. Minimal cloud cover and southwesterly winds will make sure it feel more like July than mid-October.
The latest runs of StormCast keep us quiet in terms of rain chances throughout the day on Monday. The heat will certainly be our greatest concern for the first couple of days this week.
Lows remain well above average too, as many of us likely will not drop below the 60s by Monday morning.
Even with clear skies tonight, we will struggle to drop below 60 degrees in Cape Girardeau. Be ready for a warm start to the work week in mid-October.
Widespread temperatures in the lower 90s are expected for most of the viewing area. Winds out of the south and west continue to bring us heat throughout the day.
We will challenge a nearly 40-year-old record high in Cape on Monday afternoon, with afternoon temperatures forecast in the lower 90s.
Temperatures peak on Tuesday as we add a few more degrees to our highs on Monday. This means we are looking at highs nearly 20 degrees above average!
A system working east across the country looks to finally help us cool down by the middle and latter half of the work week. A few showers remain possible as this systems moves through, with a big swing in our high temperatures by next weekend.
