Severe storm potential for Wednesday, May 8, 2024

Strong to severe storms are likely for Wednesday. All parameters of severe weather will be possible as the day progresses. See below for timing and threats.

The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded most of our area to a Moderate (Level 4 of 5) risk for higher confidence in numerous severe thunderstorms.

Spc Kbsi Wed

Large hail, damaging wind, and dangerous tornadoes will be possible.

Above is what our latest StormCast is saying for storms on Wednesday. Notice that there will be several waves of storms as the day progresses.

Tor Risk Wed Kbsi

Any storm that forms will have the potential to form a dangerous tornado. Almost all of our viewing area is in the yellow shaded 10% area with hashmarks. Hashmarks mean the potential is there for EF-2 or larger tornadoes.

Hail Risk Wed Kbsi

Hail in excess of 2″ in diameter is possible, as well. That’s larger than golf balls.

Wind Risk Wed Kbsi

Damaging wind in excess of 75 mph is also possible during the day.

Cape

The fuel for storms will be in place. Very high “CAPE” is being seen on StormCast by the afternoon.

Significant Hail Parameter

Significant hail is possible during the afternoon, too.

Significant Tornado Parameter

Most troubling is how high the Significant Tornado Parameter is. This is likely why the Storm Prediction Center has most of our area with the potential for EF-2+ tornadoes.

3 7 Day Forecast

After Wednesday, we quiet down for several days.
