Severe threat Wednesday with significant flooding expected into the weekend
Similar to Sunday, this morning’s update from the Storm Prediction Center has another very large area of the country already within an Enhanced (Level 3 of 5) risk for severe weather for Day 3.
We’re talking about Wednesday (April 2, 2025) having another setup for widespread severe weather, and potentially an outbreak.
Our area is again right in the middle of that risk, looking at the potential for very large hail, long-track and strong tornadoes and damaging winds all appearing likely through the mid-Mississippi Valley from the late afternoon into the evening hours.
The area of orange means numerous severe storms are possible, some of which could be more persistent and a few of which could be intense.
Significant severe weather will be in the cards with this setup again Wednesday (April 2, 2025). Significant severe weather means storms capable of one or more of the following:
- strong tornadoes (EF-2 or greater)
- damaging wind gusts (75 mph or greater)
- and/or very large hail (2″ or larger)
Here’s an early look at what Stormcast has for the timing of another line of storms sweeping through the area Wednesday afternoon and night.
Heavy rainfall will begin Wednesday afternoon, with numerous rounds of heavy rain continuing on into the first half of next weekend. Significant rainfall totals will cause widespread flash flooding and river flooding. Right now, it looks like our entire area could see at least 6-9″ of rain, with some locally higher amounts pushing 9-12″ possibly over western Kentucky and far southeast Missouri.
