Weather Headlines:
Rain chances will continue into Thursday morning before cloud cover slowly returns across the Heartland. Southwesterly winds will remain through the day, bringing warmer weather to the Heartland for one more day!
The latest run of StormCast shows the chance for spotty showers through the rest of the day on Wednesday. Additional showers and thunderstorms will be possible across the northern edge of the viewing area on Thursday. Spot showers will drift south through the viewing area on Friday morning as the cold front finally moves out of the region.
The risk for severe weather will be mainly for areas north of the viewing area as the front continues to lift north. Damaging winds would be the main concern for any of the strongest storms impacting our counties along Interstate 57 and Interstate 64.
Rain chances will be hit or miss due to scattered showers moving through the rest of the week. Those who find themselves directly under a few showers could end the week with upwards of an inch or two of rain, while totals remain minimal for the surrounding areas.
Forecast:
Temperatures remain well above average through Wednesday evening and into Thursday morning. We start the day off in the upper 60s under mostly cloudy skies and scattered showers on Thursday.
A few showers cannot be ruled out through the overnight in Cape Girardeau. Our low temperature will be nearly 20 degrees above average for this time of year.

We will see morning cloud cover pull back through the afternoon in Cape, allowing us to heat up to near-record values on Thursday. The record high sits at 89 degrees, set in 1963.
Fall-like weather finally returns to the forecast by Friday afternoon as a cold front surges south. This will take our afternoon highs down to 10 degrees below average to end the week.
Cooler and dry weather looks to stick around into next week, which will be more than welcome following several recent runs at record-high temperatures. We do get slightly warmer through next week, with highs topping out in the mid-to-upper 70s.
