Significant severe event coming into view as a possibility Sunday
The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded our entire area to an Enhanced (Level 3 of 5) risk for severe weather possible on Sunday (March 30, 2025).
Significant severe weather will be in the cards with this setup by Sunday afternoon and evening including very large hail, strong tornadoes and swaths of damaging winds. Significant severe weather means storms capable of one or more of the following:
- strong tornadoes (EF-2 or greater)
- damaging wind gusts (75 mph or greater)
- and/or very large hail (2″ or larger)
An extensive line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to develop and move through the entire Quad State area from Sunday afternoon through the early overnight hours.
Heavy downpours are expected, yet the overall flash flooding risk should be limited due to the fast-moving nature of these storms.
South winds may be gusting up around 35-40 mph on Sunday afternoon ahead of these storms riding in on a dynamic cold front.
Here’s an early look from Stormcast at the timing of these storms sweeping through:
Severe thunderstorm and tornado potential may continue to last into the overnight hours of early Monday, especially over parts of the Mid-South and Tennessee Valley.
