Significant severe weather outbreak possible Wednesday; historic rainfall possible into the weekend

A potentially very dangerous weather pattern is setting up for our area by Wednesday.

But the weather threats (especially flooding) are a major concern as well through the weekend, too.

THREAT OF SEVERE WEATHER

Our entire region in Tuesday afternoon’s latest update from the Storm Prediction Center still has in a MODERATE (Level 4 of 5) RISK for severe weather Wednesday.

2022 Kbsi

The area of red means numerous severe storms are possible. In fact, a significant severe weather outbreak is possible from Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night.

All severe hazards will be on the table including large to very large hail, widespread damaging winds, and potentially strong tornadoes.

The risk for tornadoes is significant over our entire area.

Those black hash marks indicate a 10 percent chance or greater of a significant tornado (EF-2 or higher).

Spc02kbsitor

Large (or even very large) hail exceeding 2″ is possible with at least a 30 percent chance within 25 miles of a point in the red area below.

Spc02kbsihail

Damaging winds could be stronger than 75 mph as they come through with storms – there’s about a 30 percent chance of that as well within 25 miles of a point below.

Here’s a break down hour-by-hour of what the storms could look like as they come through Wednesday afternoon into the night.

MAJOR FLOODING, HISTORIC RAINFALL POSSIBLE

With numerous rounds of heavy rain starting Wednesday and continuing into the first half of the weekend, we may experience significant if not historic rainfall and major flash flooding.

A Flood Watch is in place for most of us through Sunday, April 2, 2025. Initial forecast amounts lead us to believe that up to a foot of rain is not out of the question over this area.

Flood Watch Kbsi

**This could easily be potentially life-threatening flash flooding, even for areas that do not normally flood – or have never flooded before.**

Remember during flooding that it is always best to turn around, so you don’t drown. It is very hard to know how deep the waters are, or even what dangerous debris could be lurking under the surface. Do not try to drive or walk through flood waters.
