Friday will once again feature cooler-than-average temperatures for the Heartland with the chance for a spot shower, particularly during the afternoon. High temperatures will make their way to the lower 80s with increasing cloud cover throughout the day.

StormCast shows the potential for scattered showers and an occasional thunderstorm on Friday. Severe potential with storms in the coming days is expected to remain low.

Some models hint at chances for showers and thunderstorms continuing into Saturday evening for the majority of the viewing area. We are expected to dry out for some time after precipitation chances wind down on Saturday.

Temperatures this evening will remain a handful of degrees below average as well. Expect the lower to middle 60s for the start of the day on Friday under partly to mostly cloudy skies.

While a few sprinkles tonight remain on the table for the Cape Girdeau area, the majority of the forecast calls for overcast skies and temperatures falling to the lower 60s.

Cape will see partly to mostly cloudy skies for the day on Friday with highs reaching the lower 80s. Winds stay on the lighter side as we dodge an afternoon chance for a few stray showers.

Temperatures continue to rise through the weekend and into the start of next week. Mostly sunny skies return with highs reaching the upper 90s. Higher levels of humidity will allow heat index values to reach the lower 100s, which may prompt heat alerts in our area for the start of the work week.
