Storm chance tonight, cooler tomorrow
We have one more day of extreme heat across the area, there is a Heat Advisory in effect for the salmon colored counties below. Heat index values could reach 105 degrees across this area.
There is an Excessive Heat Warning in effect for the dark pink colored counties in the graphic below. Any counties under this warning could see heat index values between 110 and 115 degrees on Thursday. Be sure to have a plan to take frequent breaks from outdoor work and drink plenty of water.
High temperatures today will remain in the middle 90s. Dewpoints will sit in the middle to upper 70s with winds out of the southwest.
There is a marginal to slight risk for severe weather across the region for the late evening hours on Thursday. Current short range models show storms moving into the area just before midnight. The main hazard associated with these storms will be damaging winds and a chance of large hail.
High temperatures on Friday are looking to be much cooler than the past few days. Most of us will see high temperatures in the upper 80s and lower 90s with the chance to see gustier winds out of the west northwest.
Drier conditions will follow Thursday’s storms, with dewpoints expected to be in the upper 60s and lower 70s on Friday.
Relatively cooler and drier conditions continue through the weekend before temperatures return to the mid 90s to start the work week. There is a small chance of precipitation on Friday night, with the rest of the forecast showing mostly clear skies for the first week of August.
