Storm potential Wednesday, August 9, 2023
Strong to severe storms will be possible Wednesday. A couple of waves will push through, one during the afternoon and another in the evening (see below for timing). These storms will have the potential for damaging wind, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.
Storms become more likely as the day wears on Wednesday, with storms becoming likely in the afternoon.
Above is what a recent model is showing for storm potential Wednesday. Notice it’s not a “one and done” kind of storm. Waves will be possible.
Because of this potential, the Storm Prediction Center has us in a Level 3 Enhanced Risk for severe storms. This means numerous sever storms are possible which will be more persistent and widespread. It’s possible a few storms are intense.
Heavy rain is also possible, so we have a Slight Risk for excessive rainfall through Wednesday.
A couple inches of rain is possible for many of us in areas that do not need any rain right now. Flooding may become an issue.
More chances for rain are in the 7Day with temperatures near or below normal.
