Strong storms bring down both trees and powerlines; more possible soon
Saturday was the fourth day in a row with expected heat indices well over 100°. We certainly did experience the muggy, miserable conditions before relief came after storms rolled through. In fact, the airport in Cape Girardeau reported a 15° temperature drop in a matter of about 15 minutes!
The strong line of storms that came barreling through brought damaging winds. Trees and power lines were downed, with some winds estimated as high as 70-80 mph near Carterville in Illinois.
On and off chances of showers and storms will continue through Wednesday. But first, we aren’t done with chances through the rest of the evening. Storms will be possible through SEMO through a bit just beyond midnight, with a marginal risk that any of these are severe.
For the chances to see rain here and there, the Skeeter Meter will remain in the “Medium” category as we see some relief from the heat.
More seasonable temperatures but still humid conditions are expected Sunday and Monday, then temperatures will be a bit below normal Tuesday and Wednesday. Hot conditions return for the end of the week.
