Two rounds of storms through late Saturday and Sunday
Heading into early Sunday, there’s a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk for strong to possibly severe storms. Most of the threat is to our northwest, with the better chance coming with another round Sunday afternoon.
Models have been consistent at this coming early Sunday morning, but these storms on arrival are expected to lose steam. As they approach, some could be borderline severe, bringing some wind and hail along with them.
By late morning and early afternoon Sunday, the environment will have enough time to “reset,” bringing ingredients back into place for more robust storms to develop. For this round, Cape Girardeau will be under a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk once more, but this area has the potential to shift through tomorrow.
Really if you have plans by the late afternoon and early evening on Sunday, keep an eye on the radar. These storms are expected to turn severe quickly under these conditions, and much of the area in yellow above (Slight risk) is where these are expected to pop as of Saturday night’s data. We’ll continue to monitor this and bring about any updates from Sunday morning as needed.
As for the hot temperatures and humidity expected on Sunday, the Skeeter Meter is in the “Medium” category, dropping off with the humidity to start the work week. Much of our attention is on the storm potential through the weekend, but heat indices by Sunday could be nearing the low and middle 100s, too.
As we look toward the 7-day, we’ve got at least a couple chances at 100° daytime highs, not factoring in the humidity and therefore, heat index. It’ll be a week to make sure to take precautions with work or play outdoors!
