Windy and rainy Saturday, severe storms likely on Sunday
Sunday, an Enhanced (level 3 0ut 0f 5) risk is in effect for the KBSI viewing area.
Significant severe weather will be in the cards with this setup Sunday afternoon and evening including very large hail, strong tornadoes and swaths of damaging winds. Significant severe weather means storms capable of one or more of the following:
- strong tornadoes (EF-2 or greater)
- damaging wind gusts (75 mph or greater)
- and/or very large hail (2″ or larger)
An extensive line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to develop and move through the entire Quad State area from Sunday afternoon through the early overnight hours.
Heavy downpours are expected, yet the overall flash flooding risk should be limited due to the fast-moving nature of these storms.
South winds may be gusting up around 35-40 mph on Sunday afternoon ahead of these storms riding in on a dynamic cold front.
StormCast shows some strong isolated storms developing Sunday evening. These isolated storms could have the best potential for a few tornadoes .
By 8pm Sunday, storms look to come together east of Cape Girardeau. 5pm- 2am, looks to be the timeframe for storms on Sunday.

Wind gusts up to 30+ mph throughout the day tomorrow.
Saturday, temperatures in the low 70s. South winds will be helping warm us up.
Saturday, rain showers throughout the day and a few storms possible late Saturday evening. Winds will be gusting 25-30+ mph as well Saturday. Sunday, severe storms likely due to a cold front. Strong storms look to develop in the evening time and move east throughout the night. These storms will have damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes. Temperatures drop into the 50s and 60s Monday and Tuesday. Next Wednesday and Thursday, another chance for storms due to temperatures warming back up into the upper 70s and lower 80s.
