Winter storm with likely damaging ice accumulations
An ICE STORM WARNING (purple) is in effect from 2am Sunday to 6am Monday through the central part of the FOX23 viewing area, including Cape Girardeau and Carbondale. Significant icing is expected with total snow and sleet accumulations up to 2″ and ice accumulations between 0.25-0.75″ are possible.
A WINTER STORM WARNING (pink) is in effect late Saturday night through early Monday morning north of the Ice Storm Warning. Heavy mixed precipitation is possible: total snow and sleet accumulations between 3-5″ and ice accumulations between 0.20-0.50″ are possible.
A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY (light purple) is in effect Sunday morning through early Monday for Paducah, Poplar Bluff and areas south of the Ice Storm Warning. Mixed precipitation is expected with total snow accumulations up to 1″ and ice accumulations around 0.30″ possible.

Overall, expect very slick and hazardous driving conditions Sunday into Monday. Significant icing can lead to long-lasting power outages, while travel could be impossible.
StormCast is showing the freezing rain mix starting late Saturday night into early Sunday morning. That will continue through the afternoon hours. There could also be a few rumbles of thunder as some scattered thunderstorms may happen during all of this. Sunday evening, a small break from the freezing rain and rain. Late Sunday night into Monday morning, some snow showers will begin and some snow could come down faster and more dense in some areas. By Monday afternoon, everything will have moved out leaving us with partly sunny skies.
Ice accumulations up to an inch is possible Saturday night into Monday morning. This will make for slippery conditions outside on sidewalks, roads, and bridges.

Saturday looks to be quiet for all of us. Starting late Saturday night into Sunday morning, freezing rain mix will begin and continue through the afternoon Sunday. There could be some heavy downpours and some thunder through your Sunday. Late Sunday night into Monday morning, snow will begin and die down by the afternoon Monday. Roads, sidewalks, bridges, powerlines and trees will be covered with ice most likely through Monday. Make sure to stay weather aware and if you have to travel make sure to go slow and be extra cautious. Black ice could be hiding beneath the snow and ice accumulations.
