Vehicle burst into flames on train tracks

CAMPBELL, Mo. (KBSI) – One local Fire Department was working hard while many people were
still asleep in the early hours of the morning on Sunday.
According to the Campbell Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page just after midnight on Sunday October 13, 2024, they responded to a vehicle in flames setting directly on the train tracks in the area of County Road301 and 62W.
First responders pulled up to the scene, suddenly seeing the truck parked precariously on the tracks and a train heading straight towards it.
“County dispatch got on with us in Malden, which is not too far from us and had reported that a train was coming through there in their town at that time,” said Ben Weeks.
Crews working together quickly when they saw train lights coming straight for the truck.
“About the time we moved the truck from the tracks we started to see the train light so the clock was definitely ticking, but we did get it off in time The molding county dispatch was able to contact Union Pacific Railroad, and get the train stopped so they could inspect the track to make sure there was no damage,” said Weeks.
They worked quickly and were able to get the fire out.
2k towing assisted in removing the vehicle from the tracks, as they were removing the vehicle they began to see lights from an oncoming train.
They were able to get the train stopped in time to alert the railroad who had someone come out and inspect the tracks.
No reports of any injury at this time.
