Woman dies due to flooded roads

BOLLINGER COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – In southeast Missouri, a woman drowned after trying to drive through a flooded road in Bollinger County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 70-year-old Debbie Barks was driving an SUV on Route H, two miles north of Zama, on Saturday evening.

That’s when she came across a flooded section of the road and tried to drive through it.

The woman was unable to get out of the vehicle and drowned.

The Bollinger County coroner says he believes the driver never saw the water over the road.

“We had the lady to come around the curve here that’s behind you now and go into this low area, which at that time over 5 feet of water over the roadway. It would appear that the car began to float, and floated off of the roadway and inevitably sunk just off to the left of the roadway that you see behind me,” said Calvin Troxell, Woodland Fire Protection District chief.
