Semo Is Bring The Emmett Till Project To Campus And Features A One Of The Last Witnesses To Tils Kidnapping

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Southeast Missouri State University will be hosting the Emmett Till Project.

It’s an event that will feature Superintendent Wheel Parker Jr and a showing of the Emmett Till Documentary.

Parker is the cousin of Emmett Till and one of the last living witnesses of Till’s kidnapping.

Southeast Missouri State University Associate Professor Dana Branson says that it’s important to bring this event to the community to highlight the past and show its connection to the present.

“We still see the fingers of those issues today we still have communities that are pressed and marginalized. We still have documented evidence of equality and racial bias and the more we know about those things…the more open we are to understanding that they still occur we’re in a much better place to try to resolve them,” said Branson.

The presentations will be For Students April 12, 1 – 3 p.m. in Auditorium in Dempster Hall and For the Community: April 13, 5 – 7 p.m. in Auditorium in Dempster Hall
