Cape Girardeau police investigating theft from dead person

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Cape Girardeau police are investigating a theft from a dead body.

Police officers responded to a check the welfare of a person and found a dead body on April 18 in the 100 block of S. Lorimier Street.

Cape Girardeau police officers began processing the scene. The Cape Girardeau County Coroner’s Office was contacted and responded to the scene.

It was later determined a theft had occurred at the scene. Police started an investigation.

All Cape Girardeau police officers were eliminated as suspects in the theft case based on body camera footage along with statements taken from the scene, according to police.

The investigation continues.
